Soundbeam® is a no-contact device enables all clients, regardless of ability, to become expressive and communicate using music, sound, and visual effects! Even clients with profound and multiple disabilities can control the experience independently. And everyone comes away feeling highly motivated—stimulating learning and interaction in other areas.
An invisible beam, acting as an expanding keyboard in space, measures the direction and speed of body movements from hands, arms, legs, feet, or the entire body. The ultrasonic sensors then convert these body movements into symphonies of sound, which are then played by a large number of synthesized musical instruments. This electronic technology releases the player from traditional limitations of percussion-based activities and opens up new worlds of musical reinforcement. Best of all, it only takes a blink of an eye or a puff of air to produce cascades of notes, dramatic chords, or sound reinforcement.
How Soundbeam works
Soundbeam uses up to 4 independent ultrasonic sensors to detect information about movements in its invisible, cone-shaped beams. The range of each sensor can be varied from 12" to a maximum of 6.6 yards. When combined with the operations of the switches, Soundbeam can be used to create 12 separate, simultaneous yet independent musical outputs.
Simply assign 1 of 100 pitch sequences to the information derived from each beam or switch. Any object moving in the beam triggers the sequence of notes you've selected! In addition, the Trigger Mode provides a number of ways for articulating sound, while the 2 MIDI Control Chains allow you to select 2 of the instrument's expressive characteristics such as volume, timbre, vibration, or reverb. |
