HP Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative The HP Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative is designed to support the innovative use of mobile technology in K-16 education, and to help identify K-12 public schools and two- and four-year colleges and universities that HP might support with future grants. In 2008, HP will award a total of nearly $7 million in cash and equipment to K-12 schools in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and to colleges and universities throughout North America (Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S.). K-12 Schools: HP will grant awards (approximately $40,000) to K-12 public schools that are using a collaborative, team-based approach to implementing technology integration projects. The activities of the project must be focused on using technology to teach, rather than on teaching students to use technology. Preference will be given to schools that serve a high proportion of low-income students, relative to their district or state’s free and reduced price lunch percentages. Colleges and Universities: Higher education grants (approximately $77,000) will include a $20,000 cash grant for the principal investigator to use to support the work of the project. A project must propose a course redesign for one or more undergraduate courses, where at least one course is focused on Mathematics; Science (physical, environmental, computer); Engineering (electrical, computer, mechanical, environmental, materials); and/or Information Systems/ Information Technology. The online application process begins January 8, 2008. |
